The Prime Of Life

Dancing

If I had to pick the time of life
that seems to suit me best,
I'd have to say, that this birthday
Stands out from all the rest.

Most think of turning fifty,
A scary thought indeed,
But looking back across the years,
We get there with great speed.

But, think of all the positives...,
No tiny kids to raise...,
No sleepless nights...,
No sibling fights,
Like in our younger days.

Our homes are neat and spotless;
Our bathrooms even shine.
(Remember all those painful waits.
When we had to stand in line?)

No longer must we spend each day,
hanging clothes up on the line...,
'Pressing them and folding them,
Time after endless time!

No more long hours at the stove
To feed their appetites.
Or sitting up 'till the sun comes up
When they all go out a night.

That is until the weekend,
When we need a little rest.
They drop off all the grand-kids,
Who make a great big mess!

But, they're all such little darlings,
Whom we spoil, love and praise,
So, we find ourselves at fifty,
With another brood to raise.

And when their parents pick them up,
We can sit and sip some wine,
And talk about the olden days,
To wile away our time.
